Bush 2016?

God, I hope not. Sadly, his last name is enough to turn off independents. The GOP needs to come out swinging in 2016 with someone inspiring and new, not another Bush.

Robert Costa over at NRO is reporting that Jeb Bush was in Washington, D.C. on Monday meeting with his former staffers.

In an interview with NRO, Bush did not rule out a presidential run. “I am here to catch up with folks and promote education reform,” he said, smiling.

When asked again whether he will issue a Sherman-type statement about his future, Bush remained coy. “We have an alumni group that I like keeping in touch with,” he said. “I’m here to focus on educational reform, and that’s what I’m going to tell people.”

Neil Newhouse, Mitt Romney’s campaign pollster, among other GOP operatives, was at the meeting.

On Tuesday, Bush will host a national summit on education reform. Education secretary Arne Duncan, former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, and Indiana governor Mitch Daniels will speak at the event.

Is it really fair to outright dismiss a man based on his last name? I get it: a lot of people have a hatred for George Bush. Especially those on the left that appear to have an irrational hatred for him. But to suggest by virtue of his last name Jeb Bush is a bad choice simply isn’t fair. Ordinarily I agree with you on things Michelle. This is a rare instance I don’t. Also, I think the GOP should try the “inspiring and new” thing. But then, our current president was that “inspiring and new” thing. And look at how well that turned out. What we need is real inspiration. Real “newness.” I’m not suggesting Jeb Bush is new or inspirational or anything. Only that a man’s last name shouldn’t be used against him.

However, inspiration and newness are precisely what the GOP needs. And it is my belief the GOP should do so by embracing its minority members, adopting some libertarian positions, and inducting some minority members into the upper echelons of GOP power. To that end, I think we should keep our eyes on Marco Rubio. He appears to be a guy who can be that new and inspiring figure.

Dennis, she wrote “Sadly, his last name is enough to turn off independents.” emphasis on “sadly”. It was inferred by the coma, I believe, to be her opinion; that one shouldn’t be judged by their last name. (she didn’t state one way, or another if she would have liked the idea, beyond the public’s perception of his name being a detriment)

If I’m about to go over a fiscal cliff , I’d prefer my lifeline be attached to something more substantial than a Bush. The GOP needs someone of substance. A man or woman of both common and uncommon sense. I think of the 2012 election as a failed intervention. The “entitlement junkies” voted for continued dependency. I fear our republic will have to hit rock bottom before accepting the change it so desperately needs.
